I am a Brazilian-Canadian living in the US with my husband, our two children and our dog. I am passionate about how the food we eat affects directly our physical and mental health. I have an autoimmune health condition that I ease with the best medicine out there: real food.
Nutrition was always something that got my attention. In high school, I considered doing a Nutrition bachelor but the not-so-great grades in Biology and Chemistry made me walked away – and then I had my bachelor’s in advertising.
After my first child was born, 9 years ago, I stopped my career in marketing and advertising and decided to dedicate my time to my family. I changed my lifestyle and incorporated exercise and healthier foods in my daily routine. During my second pregnancy I was active and had established a consistent workout routine. When my second baby was 6 months old, I entered to the fitness world and found myself doing restricted diets and over training to pursue an extreme fit and lean body. And I got that physique.
Then I started a self-knowledge process, with practices of meditation and studies about true self love. During this self-connection, I realized that all my "healthy" choices were based on my image and not really about my health. I have tracked my macros for so long without even question why I was following a formula I was given!.
In May of 2020 the Universe gave me the final wakeup call: I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It was scary, I felt extremely overwhelmed and anxious how my future would be. I got the diagnosis in the middle of the pandemic, with no chance whatsoever to have a family member coming abroad to support me. It was only my husband and I and our children. He had to move over his work schedule to watch our kids while I had my so-many visits to the doctor office. It was a very stressful moment in our lives!
But it was also a moment to deep connect to myself. I decided to take control of my life and I started to study alternative therapies I could do to help me function better with my health condition. And guess what? I learned the food I eat is one of THE MOST important factors of my health - physical and mental. And I found myself reading books about diet protocols that help to decrease body inflammation; I started studying about Ayurveda (it’s Indian health system and one of the oldest in human history) and about our ancestries health; I started to get curious about the digestion process and how food nutrients we absorb impact our mental health; I started to practice meditation with a purpose; I started to pause and I paid attention to my body and how it reacted to the food I eat.
And suddenly I realized: this is what I want to do for my future! I want to empower people to change their habits (and man, we all know how hard this could be!) in order to have a healthier life; I want to disseminate that the food we eat is our real medicine and if we give the right attention to, we can all have a long healthy and balanced life. So, in 2021, I finished the certification “Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP) Program, by the Nutrition Therapy Association school, here in the United States. And I haven't stopped since! I'm continuing educating myself with courses, trainings, and workshops specialized in integrative health and the reactions of emotion-body connection.
